The Palmyra palm, an emblem of resilience and vitality, holds a special place in the festivities of Pongal. Its sprouts, known as 'Panai Kizhangu' in Tamil, carry cultural significance during this auspicious celebration. The sprouts, harvested before they unfurl into palm fronds, are often used as symbolic decorations, adorning entrances or puja spaces during Pongal.
